DESCRIPTION:The ST3–5 Abortion Care Study Day is a one-day training programme designed for doctors progressing through Obstetrics and Gynaecology training. Developed in partnership with NHS England and mapped to the RCOG curriculum and training matrix\, this course supports Resident Doctors in developing the knowledge\, clinical judgement and confidence required to provide abortion care at an intermediate level of training. It focuses on the clinical\, practical and service-level aspects of care\, including second trimester uterine evacuation\, consultation skills and the organisation of services. The programme includes teaching on: \n\nConsultation skills and addressing abortion-related stigma\nAbortion care within the independent sector\nObstetric safety and second trimester uterine evacuation\nService development\, including setting up second trimester abortion services\nPatient experience and perspectives\nTraining pathways within abortion care\n\nLearning Approach\nThis course is delivered as a structured training day combining: \n\nLectures to explore clinical and service-level topics\nInteractive discussion to support clinical reasoning and decision-making\nCase-based learning to reflect real-world clinical scenarios\n\nThe course provides an opportunity for Resident Doctors to consolidate knowledge\, develop clinical confidence and engage with more complex aspects of abortion care. \nWho is this course for?\nThis course is designed for: \n\nResident Doctors in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ST3–5)\nResident Doctors in Community Sexual and Reproductive Health (ST3–5)\n\nIt may also be relevant for doctors seeking to develop their experience in abortion care at an intermediate level. \nHow this course fits into training\nThis course forms part of BSACP’s structured education pathway.
