DESCRIPTION:The SITM Advanced Course is an in-person training programme designed for doctors undertaking\, or preparing to undertake\, the Special Interest Training Module (SITM) in Safe Practice in Abortion Care of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. \nDeveloped in partnership with NHS England and mapped to the RCOG curriculum and training matrix\, this course supports clinicians in developing the advanced knowledge\, procedural skills and clinical confidence required for providing abortion care across gestations. \nBeing a Member Pays!\nBSACP Members are entitled to discounts on all of our activities as part of our membership benefits. You can access the discount codes here. You will need to be logged in to your profile to access the codes. The discount amount is close to the cost of a year’s membership. \nThe discount for the course is: \n\n£25 off for Resident Doctors\n\n\n      \n        \n      \n    \nAbout the Course\nThis course supports clinicians in progressing towards independent practice in abortion care. It focuses on the clinical\, procedural and service-level aspects of care required for those undertaking the SITM\, including hands-on training in uterine evacuation techniques and the management of more complex cases. The programme includes teaching on: \n\nService development\, including increasing surgical gestations and setting up services\nPain management in medical and surgical abortion\nManual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA) and Dilation and Evacuation (D&E) techniques\nSimulation-based procedural training in MVA and D&E\nManagement of complex cases and complications\nPatient experience and perspectives\nTransition to independent practice following completion of the SITM\n\nLearning Approach\nThis is an in-person course combining: \n\nLectures to explore advanced clinical and service-level topics\nSimulation-based training in MVA and D&E techniques\nCase-based discussion to support clinical reasoning and decision-making\nSmall group learning to allow hands-on practice and personalised feedback\n\nThe course provides a supportive environment for developing both technical skills and professional confidence in abortion care. \nWho is this course for?\nThis course is designed for: \n\nDoctors undertaking the SITM in Safe Practice in Abortion Care\nResident Doctors in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (typically ST5–7)\nDoctors preparing to apply for or considering the SITM\n\nThe SITM is open to all doctors with an interest in abortion care\, and this course is suitable for those looking to develop the skills required for this training pathway. \nHow this course fits into training\nThis course forms part of BSACP’s structured education pathway.
